General Description. The Green Swamp is a critical hydrological resource. It encompasses the headwaters of four major rivers – the Withlacoochee, Ocklawaha, Hillsborough and Peace rivers – and has the highest groundwater elevation in Florida’s Peninsula. It is therefore critical to the recharge of the Floridan Aquifer.
