During WWII the sword was not worn by Regular Army Officers, they were to wear pistols, but it continued to be authorized for ROTC and MA students.

N140 contracts are usually WWII-era contracts. Earlier M36 models with the pop metal buckles and domed snaps were indeed manufactured in 1945 but saw very limited use if any in WWII. We need to do a group study for the new guys. Things to look at. Guard markings, Case stamped the guard horizontal from the bottom of the blade down. Not sideways!
