If you read your service manual it should give you a list of compatible oils. Tractor supply company has a universal oil which meets a lot of specs. But, I think I paid $11 per gallon for hygard, and $48 for a 5 gallon bucket of TSC universal (for my MTDs), so the price savings was pretty minimal.Hy-Gard is a premium oil, designed for hydrostatic systems in compact tractors, combines, and bulldozers...and yes L&G tractors too. Use it! This is a time when the "OEM oil" is truely the best out there. Any brand 10w-30 synthetic oil would be good for the engine. Couple bad seals with the low viscosity that hy-gard has and it seems a bit counterintuitive. Some of us use 80w90 because that it what it says in our manual.
